Woolbright wins school board election; Childress and Nix in runoff

Yes, you heard it here first — the Benton School Board election is in the books.
Well, actually you probably read about the election results elsewhere as we’re over 24 hours late with the results. Still, we’re going to make a record of it.
At any rate, elections were held Tuesday for two school board positions. Jonathan Woolbright defeated Peggy Butler in one race while another one between incumbent Paul Childress and challengers Heath Nix and Michael Pafford resulted in a runoff. That race will take place in Oct. 11 and is …

Tony Prothro suspended and we’re not sure why

The Saline Courier reported that Tony Prothro, the superintendent of the Benton School District since 2006, was suspended with pay by the School Board at a meeting on Monday night.
Dan Jordan, director of personnel and student affairs for the district, has been named interim superintendent. The decision was effective immediately and the school board meant it — by Tuesday afternoon, Prothro’s name was removed from the District Internet site as superintendent and Jordan’s was substituted.
