Horoscope for the week of Nov. 21

Yes, it’s Thanksgiving week and we all know what that means — eating too much with friends and relatives, watching football, Black Friday sales and generally being thankful.
Dr. Zodiac — our resident master of the occult, soothsayer and inventor of the Crystal Ouija Rune Board (he makes us keep plugging that because he’s looking for investors) — tells us that the stars don’t like all this “being thankful stuff” one bit. Why? Dr. Zodiac claims that holidays are distractions that pull us away from our duty of alternating between relying …

A new twist on an old favorite Thanksgiving side dish…

I have never been a big fan of green bean casserole, something about the canned mushroom soup and the fried onion topping just doesn’t sound good to me.
What if there was a green been casserole that didn’t include all that mushroom soup and weird onion topping? A “denastified” green bean casserole, in other words.
Well, such a recipe does, indeed, exist. So here is a twist on an old favorite.
Green bean casserole
2 lbs fresh green beans, ends cut off
4 slices bacon, cut into 1/4 inch pieces
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 whole large …

Thanksgiving OTR: Father Knows Best — Happy Thanksgiving

Yes, indeed. The Thanksgiving OTR series continues here at First Arkansas News.
This episode features Robert Young as insurance agent Jim Anderson in Father Knows Best — a show that stands as perhaps the best example of an idealized picture of life in the United States. It seems appropriate, then, to feature at least one Father Knows Best episodes when we’re celebrating a distinctly American holiday. Now, don’t worry — this is a comedy and it doesn’t get too bogged down in sentimentality. Really. Honest.
As always, this episode is brought to …
