The average sales price in April was $145,467 — down 7.55 percent from $157,530 a year ago. The average amount of time homes spent on the market before selling improved, however, in April — 148 …

Mitch Mustain may avoid charges

Just last month we posted a story about former Springdale High School Quarterback Mitch Mustain being arrested in Los Angeles.
At the time, it appeared he would would face felony charges for allegedly selling Adderall — a controlled substance — online to an undercover officer. A few weeks after that, we posted another story stating it appeared Mustain would deal with a misdemeanor charge for allegedly passing off something else that is not a controlled substance as Aderall. That story, too, detailed how Mustain’s name has popped up in an NFL …

Northwest Arkansas Is Closed Due to Inclement Weather

There was not a single snowflake falling in Benton County at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
When the alarm went off at 6:15 a.m., I rolled over to look out the French doors, and saw a world of white. The ground was white. The air was white from falling snow. The patio was white. The vehicles were white. The street was white.
By mid-afternoon, two feet of snow covered my back yard. And, as I am snowed inside, I will change the date stamp on my digital camera, which is stuck frozen on 2010.
The …

Victory Walk Inc. provides clients hope, improved quality of life

SPRINGDALE—Brian Wood of Beebe has had two near-death experiences in his life, a fact that has taught him to never take anything for granted.
The most recent was August 24 when his house burned to the ground, nearly with him inside. Passersby saw the house burning and got him out in time, he said. Wood was unable to get himself out of the house because of the first near-death experience—a car accident that happened Oct. 28, 2006 that left him a quadriplegic.
Wood agreed his friends might think he doesn’t have many …

Benton Panthers make the playoffs

It’s been a rough year for the Benton Panthers, but the team clinched an appearance in the Arkansas Class 6A playoffs last night with a 61-13 drubbing of Little Rock’s J.A. Fair.
That victory gave the Panthers a 3-7 record on the season and only its second home win at C.W. Lewis Stadium in Benton this season. Truth be told, that was the second home win for the Panthers in the past two years.
What? How does a team make the playoffs with a 3-7 record. Well, there are two, eight-team divisions …

Front Porch Family Diner — Southern cooking done right

A few months ago, Ralph Hudson started the Front Porch Family Diner in Springdale, Ark.
There’s Hudson in the photo over to the left and you’ll find a display ad for the Front Porch Family Diner in the right sidebar of this site. After eating breakfast a couple of weeks ago at the Front Porch Family Diner, I’m even happier that Hudson decided to take out an ad with First Arkansas News. Why? The Front Porch Family Diner is, simply put, a great restaurant and I have no problem endorsing the …
