Motorola to make smartphone in the U.S.

Motorola announced on Thursday that it will release a new smartphone — the Moto X — in October.
Motorola officials have gone on at length about how advanced the Android-based phone will be. For example, Motorola claims the phone will be contextually aware of its surroundings and act accordingly — it can fire up a camera when pulled out of a pocket, behave differently when in a moving car, etc. It’s to be a high-end smartphone competing with the likes of the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4. When a person goes to a wireless carrier to purchase a smartphone, what typically happens? He or she usually pays a reduced fee for a phone (or gets one for free) and signs up for a two-year contract.

It’s official — Verizon has the iPhone

For the past couple of days, we’ve tracked the rumor that Verizon would soon be able to make the Apple iPhone available to its customers.
That’s no longer a rumor. Indeed, Verizon held a press conference this morning and announced the iPhone will be available through the carrier on Feb. 10 and put up a page allowing interested customers to reserve a phone immediately. AP viewing iPhone to Verizon as a certainty?

Just the other day, First Arkansas News reported on rumors that Verizon will announce at an 11 a.m. press conference on Tuesday that it will have the Apple iPhone available for customers.
The Associated Press today added to those rumors — or, perhaps, got closer to confirming them — by reporting that Verizon is expected to make that announcement.
