Well, we got that completely wrong…

Last week, we reported that our Lum and Abner comic strip would appear weekly in the Saline Courier starting on Sept. 11.
Sept. 11 came and went and the comic didn’t run. Rather than compound our error, we decided to not print a thing about the delay until we found out for sure what happened. Lum and Abner coming to ‘Saline Courier’

It was a great day for us here at First Arkansas News.
Why? The Saline Courier — a newspaper based here in Benton — made the decision to publish our Lum and Abner comic strip every Sunday. It goes without saying we’re pleased as can be that the Courier will start running the strip. School Board punts plans for new Panthers playfield

The Benton School Board set the table for yet another round of fights over a new football stadium for the Panthers.
The Saline Courier reported that the Benton School Board voted 4-3 to reverse an August decision to spend $11 million to replace C.W. Lewis Stadium, a downtown facility that was built in 1934.

‘Benton Courier’ now ‘Saline Courier’

The Benton Courier released some big news the other day — the paper has changed its name to The Saline Courier.
Such news might not matter one whit to people who aren’t from around here, but it’s a major change for those of us who have been in the area for awhile. The paper has been around since 1876 and has spent most of that time tied to Benton, the county seat and largest city in the county.
