Being good, doing good

The Apostle Paul trained and equipped Titus to oversee the churches on the island of Crete. Paul wrote Titus a letter which is part of the New Testament.
That letter is mainly a set of instructions for Titus’ work. There is a consistent theme running through the letter. That theme includes two very closely related ideas: “being good” and “doing good.” Titus was tasked with developing leaders for the churches. Paul wanted to make absolutely sure that Titus understood that integrity and moral goodness are the most important characteristics for a …

Titus’ assignment

The Apostle Paul established some churches on the island of Crete. When Paul moved on to set up new churches elsewhere, he left those churches in the capable hands of Titus.
Paul had trained and equipped Titus for a special job. Titus 1:1-5 states,  “Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of those chosen of God and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, 2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago, 3 …

Parkview Methodists want to know if you’re ready to rumble

The Rev. Natasha Murray-Norman assumed her role as pastor at Parkview United Methodist Church in Benton at the end of June and has completed five sermons since then.
She wrapped up her first series — a three-parter entitled Ready to Rumble — on July 24. The series is all about actively engaging in spiritual warfare against evil in the world and being a passionate follower of Christ rather than a passive one. The question, of course, has to do with how successful the good reverend is in inspiring her congregation. Has …

Christmas in the Heavens

In John 14:3 Jesus said, “and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
I think we would all agree that the glory of the Christmas story never fades. God came to earth in human flesh and the world has never been the same since. However, the greatest Christmas of all is still to come for Jesus declared, “I will come again.”
When Jesus came the first time, He did …
