Arkansas metro home sales up in June

The City Wire in Fort Smith has posted its June Arkansas Homes Sales Report for four metro areas in Arkansas and sales numbers continued to climb during that month.
The report covers the four largest metros in Arkansas — central Arkansas, the Fort Smith area, the Jonesboro area and northwest Arkansas. Except for the Fort Smith area, all metros reported gains in sales for June. Furthermore, sales for the six months of 2013 were up 9.57 percent compared to the first half of 2012. Why Wal-Mart’s ‘buy American’ initiative could be significant

KATV-7 — the ABC affiliate in Little Rock — reported today that Bentonville-based Walmart Stores Inc. has pledged to buy $50 billion in goods made or grown in America over the next 10. Wal-Mart also plans to train and provide jobs to 100,000 recently-discharged veterans over the next five years.

Wal-Mart pleads guilty in hazardous waste case

Wal-Mart Stores, on Tuesday, issued a news release stating the Bentonville-based retailer had entered into agreements related to investigations into hazardous waste dumping. The release, however, is rather vague on why an agreement was necessary or what wrongdoing the retailer engaged in that led to a series of federal investigations.

NWA StartUp Cup 2013 to launch soon

The Northwest Arkansas StartUp Cup is launching its 2013 competition, organizers announced recently. There will be several changes to the second year of the competition as organizers fine-tune the process.

Three northwest Arkansas Realtor boards merge

On Feb. 2, the largest board of Realtors in Arkansas was created when members of the Metro Area Board of Realtors approved an agreement to merge the three real estate associations covering Benton and Washington counties.
The merger resulted in the formation of the Northwest Arkansas Board of Realtors, a group with around 1,500 members. The boards that agreed to merge are the Bentonville-Bella Vista Board of Realtors, Fayetteville-based Metro Area Board of Realtors and the Rogers Board of Realtors.

A proposal to merge three boards of Realtors in northwest Arkansas was defeated earlier this month, but the matter will be taken up again in February.
On Jan. 11, the Metro Area Board of Realtors met in Fayetteville and defeated a proposal to merge that board with the Bentonville-Bella Vista Board of Realtors, Rogers Board of Realtors. Members of the Metro Area Board defeated the proposal by 13 votes.

Housing markets in northwest Arkansas, Jonesboro up in 2011

The numbers are in and show that real estate markets improved last year in both northwest Arkansas and the Jonesboro area. In a nutshell, both average sales prices and the number of units sold improved in the Jonesboro area while more homes were sold in 2011 than in 2010 in northwest Arkansas, but the sales price dropped.

Northwest Arkansas Realtors turn down merger proposal

Northwest Arkansas real estate agents voted down a proposal that would have created the largest board of Realtors in the state.
The three boards subject to the proposed merger are based in Benton and Washington counties. The Metro Area Board has 898 members and covers Madison County, Washington County and the western half of Benton County. The Rogers Board has 468 members in the Rogers and Lowell areas while the Bentonville-Bella Vista board has 178 members.
