36th annual Lum and Abner Festival scheduled in Mena this weekend

If you’re in western Arkansas (or live close to it) and are looking for something to do this weekend, bear in mind that the 36th annual Lum & Abner Festival is scheduled in Mena on Friday and Saturday.
Who were Lum and Abner? A couple of hillbilly-type characters created by Norris “Tuffy” Goff and Chester Lauck which became the most popular old time radio comedy team Arkansas ever produced. It’s the start of a new week, so that means it’s time to take a look at what went on last week here at First Arkansas News through our Week in Review series. That paper is, after all, in our backyard and we’ve heard from a few fans of the Lum and Abner old time radio show that they’d love to read the comic strip but aren’t too keen on …

Mena to host Lum and Abner Festival in June

Yes this makes two Lum and Abner-related articles in two days.
Still, there’s a lot going on regarding the Arkansas comedy team — this year marks both the 80th anniversary of the Lum and Abner show airing and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Pine Ridge, Ark. For a little history on the program, make sure to visit our synopsis of what those Arkansas boys did in establishing their successful old time radio franchise if you’d like to learn more about them.
On June 3-4, fans of the show will gather …
