Pelphrey back at Florida

Former Arkansas Razorbacks Head Basketball Coach has been introduced as an assistant to Billy Donovan at the University of Florida.
That move should look familiar to anyone who followed the Houston Nutt saga back in 2007. The ever controversial Nutt left Arkansas to become the head football coach at Ole Miss. Indeed, an Arkansas coach leaving the university and winding up at another school in the SEC is nothing new.
Pelphrey, of course, was fired last month after four seasons at Arkansas and has been replaced by former Arkansas assistant and Missouri …

Anderson brings Missouri staff to Razorbacks

Just yesterday, new Razorbacks Head Basketball Coach Mike Anderson announced who will round out his staff next year.
While some have been quick to point out that Anderson imported his Missouri staff, here’s what’s striking about tho will be coaching the Hogs next year — a lot of those cats have substantial ties to Arkansas. In fact, it might be argued at least a couple of them have come back home to Arkansas and — what’s more — they’re coming from an era to which a lot of Razorbacks fans would …

Week in Review (March 21-27)

It’s been a heck of a week on a number of levels here in Arkansas.
For one thing, that pesky winter returned in full force about the middle of the week. Indeed, our 70-degree, sunny days were replaced by near-freezing temperatures and nasty rain by the weekend.
For another, the question a heck of a lot of us Arkansans wanted to know was answered this week — who will replace deposed Razorbacks Basketball Coach John Pelphrey? Also, we had the state Legislature going about its business of annoying us with new laws. …

Mike Anderson to Arkansas — maybe

Unless you’re one of those Arkansans who has been unconscious for the past couple of weeks, you’re well aware that the University of Arkansas told head basketball coach John Pelphrey to hit the road on March 13.
Naturally, there has been much speculation about who is to replace the much-maligned Pelphrey. We’ve heard that Minnesota’s Tubby Smith might take the gig, of course, and one name that keeps popping up is Missouri’s Mike Anderson.
Anderson’s name has — you guessed it — popped up once again. If this story from 40/29 is …

Tubby Smith to Arkansas?

Here we go — it’s been about a day since John Pelphrey was dismissed as the head basketball coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks and rumors are flying all over the place.
We’ve heard about the possibility of Missouri head coach Mike Anderson taking the job for a couple of weeks now and he has, of course, denied that he plans on going anywhere.
Meanwhile, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported today that Arkansas is close to hiring Minnesota coach Tubby Smith. What does Smith say? Of course, he said he doesn’t plan on …

Pelphrey’s gone, so who’s next?

ESPN reported earlier today that Arkansas Head Basketball Coach John Pelphrey had been dismissed and that has been proven true.
Indeed, the University of Arkansas issued a statement confirming that Pelphrey has been released. Pelphrey, in his four seasons at Arkansas, compiled a 69-59 overall record and a 25-39 record in the SEC. Additionally, the Hogs appeared in one NCAA tournament under Pelphrey, having made it to the second round in the 2007-08 season.
Those stats, clearly, weren’t good enough for the University of Arkansas. The question, of course, is who will …

ESPN says Pelphrey fired

If an ESPN article is right, John Pelphrey has been dismissed as the head basketball coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the University of Arkansas will make a formal announcement confirming that later today.
Of course, if the UA does make such an announcement, we’ll post a link to it here at First Arkansas News. If the ESPN story turns out to be wrong, we’ll mention that, too. In other words — stay tuned.
Anyone who has been around Arkansas this year has noticed that fans have grown increasingly irritated with Pelphrey. …
