After receiving a very positive response to an article here at First Arkansas News about Lum and Abner, it is apparent there are still a good number of old time radio (OTR) fans out there and more than a few of them have taken to the Internet to talk about — and study up on — those broadcasts that dominated popular entertainment before the advent of television.

Old time radio, anyone?

Years ago, my dad got me hooked on old time radio shows. My dad’s favorite series was Lum and Abner — two characters created and portrayed by Chester Lauck and Norris Goff. Lum and Abner came on every afternoon after school in (at least!) the 1970s and 1980s from a radio station in Hot Springs.
I believe that station was KTHS, which would make sense as that’s where Goff and Lauck started off with their “bumpkin” act before getting picked up by NBC. Lum and Abner made some movies and stayed …
