Horoscope for the week of Oct. 31

It’s Halloween and our resident astrologer, Dr. Zodiac, tells us the stars have been extra feisty this week.
While we’re not quite sure what stars have to do with ghosts, goblins and all that other stuff that comes with Halloween, Dr. Zodiac says the stars have a lot of influence over the Spirit World (emphasis his). Hey, he claims to be an accomplished astrologer, master of the occult and general smart guy when it comes to otherworldly things, so we’ll take his word for it. Besides, he told us when he …

Spook City set for Oct. 29 in downtown Benton

Benton will, once again, play host to the annual Spook City event on Saturday, Oct. 29.
What is Spook City? Simply put, it’s a chance for kids to put on costumes, play games, run wild and get free candy. It’s billed as a family-friendly event that thrives on the “lighter side” of Halloween and relies on the participation of area merchants. That’s right — all that free candy is largely provided by businesses in the city that set up booths and pass out treats for about three hours. Event organizers told …

Weekend OTR: Lights Out – Poltergeist (Gravestone)

Yes, it’s the weekend again and that means it’s time for another installment of the famed Weekend OTR series here at First Arkansas News.
Since we’re so close to Halloween, we’ve got an appropriate episode picked out this week — a spooky episode from the Lights Out series. Well, actually it’s more creepy than scary by today’s standards as there’s only so radio folks could get away with back in 1942. Still, it’s a great program that’s entertaining as can be. Not a thing wrong with that.
Of course, we’ll be back …

Reporter’s Notebook: Fall Festival with the Methodists

As I’ve mentioned a time or two, my wife, children and I are members of Parkview United Methodist Church in Benton.
One of the greatest things about that particular church is that it’s members go out of their way to put on some spectacular events. At Parkview, some of the most enjoyable events of the year happen around Christmas, Mother’s Day and, yes, the fall festival held prior to Halloween every year.
This year — like every year — children showed up in droves to play games, win candy and generally have …
