Steely announces launch of Sparkible

Mike Steely announced the formation of Sparkible, a non-profit education focused on innovation and startup learning. If the name “Steely” sounds familiar, it should — we visited with him a couple of weeks ago about innovation and economic growth in Arkansas.
Steely, formerly of Arkansas Capital Corporation, has partnered with David Moody to open Sparkible. The new company, according to a news release, is kicking off a series of summer camps established with the goal of teaching Arkansas kids how to harness innovative ideas and build companies based on them. Mattingly puts together economic advisory panel

David Mattingly took office as mayor of Benton on Jan. 1 and he’s been a busy man since them.
To his credit, Mattingly has been seeking a lot of input from citizens. A couple of weeks ago, the first meeting of an economic advisory panel (of sorts) took place and included business leaders from around the city. Oddly enough, yours truly — good ole Ethan C. Grant to bring financial sessions to 6 counties

Little Rock– A grant from the USDA Rural Development will provide financial education and information to people in six counties.
The Arkansas Human Development Corporation received the $98,000 grant, AHDC executive director Clevon Young said Friday afternoon. Federal grants are generally announced through congressional offices first then the receiving agency receives formal confirmation, Young explained.
The grant will provide several means of financial information and education including financial literacy sessions, forums for information from various types of lenders and conferences about starting or expanding a business. Sometimes the forums and sessions …

Keet says he’s in to win

Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat, is supposed to be a shoe-in for governor according to what some political pundits here in Arkansas say.
Arkansas  News‘ John Brummet, in a June 19 column, described Keet as “the former state legislator and reasonably successful businessman who answered the Republicans’ kamikaze call to wage the noble battle against the uncommonly popular Beebe.”
In other words, Keet hasn’t much of a chance in the upcoming election. Keet said he’s seen that notion raised a time or two in the press and he doesn’t agree with it …
