Arkansas metro home sales up in June

The City Wire in Fort Smith has posted its June Arkansas Homes Sales Report for four metro areas in Arkansas and sales numbers continued to climb during that month.
The report covers the four largest metros in Arkansas — central Arkansas, the Fort Smith area, the Jonesboro area and northwest Arkansas. Except for the Fort Smith area, all metros reported gains in sales for June. Furthermore, sales for the six months of 2013 were up 9.57 percent compared to the first half of 2012. Average sales prices in those areas stood …

I’m back too, but like a writer without a pen…

…I am currently a photographer without a camera.
And, much like Ethan, our venerable leader here at First Arkansas News, I have been a victim of an illness that sucked me out of life and plopped me on the sidelines since the end of March, 2012. (Recovery has been slow and treatment continues, so what better time than now to pick up the reins and run with it!)  At some time during the past year, my trusty companion, my camera, decided its usefulness was done, so my first quest is purchasing …

Central Arkansas housing market down in December, year

In spite of five straight months of improving market conditions, homes sales in central Arkansas were down in December and for the year.
For the purposes of this report, central Arkansas includes five counties squarely in the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area — Faulkner, Grant, Lonoke, Pulaski and Saline — as well as Jefferson and White counties which are not properly within that MSA. In those seven counties, there were 633 single-family, residential units sold in December — down 2.76 percent from 651 closed transactions in December 2010 and …

Central Arkansas homes sales up in November

After four months of increased sales compared to year-ago totals, sales followed yearly trends in central Arkansas in November and were higher compared to the same month in 2010.
Before getting into that, it’s necessary to mention a couple of things about our data used to compile monthly housing market reports and the accuracy of it. Such a conversation is necessary in light of reports from the likes of the Wall Street Journal that the National Association of Realtors (NAR) has — knowingly or unknowingly — inflated national homes sales reports …

Benton Waffle House — maximum comfort food

When you’re in the mood for some filling, artery-clogging comfort food, it’s hard to beat the Waffle House.
Of course, those are scattered all over the South, but I’ve been a somewhat regular customer at the one here in Benton for a couple of decades now. I say “somewhat regular” because too much Waffle House in the diet could well lead to health problems. We’re not talking about health-conscious meals here. We’re talking about comfort food that is all well and good so long as it is an occasional indulgence rather …

Central Arkansas homes sales up in October

For the fourth month in a row, homes sales increased in the expanded central Arkansas area.
For the purposes of this report, the central Arkansas market includes Faulkner, Grant, Lonoke, Pulaski and Saline counties (which are located in the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area) and the nearby Jefferson and White counties. Why add in a couple of neighboring counties? Simply put, the markets in Jefferson and White counties are closely connected to those in the traditionally defined MSA. In the expanded market, sales were finalized on 655 single-family residences …

September homes sales up in central Arkansas

We’ve already seen that homes sales were up last month in northwest Arkansas and the same held true for markets in the central Arkansas market.
At any rate, …

Sales up, prices down again in central Arkansas

It’s not exactly a trend yet, but the expanded August housing market report for central Arkansas shows that prices were up and sales were down for the second straight month.
Before getting into that, it’s important to point out that we’ve expanded the central Arkansas housing market reports we post monthly at First Arkansas News by adding a couple of counties — Jefferson and White.
Those two counties aren’t in the proper Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), but they are close enough to the region to be relevant to …
