The Nobles Law Firm is now open

As of July 1, the Nobles Law Firm opened its doors in scenic downtown Benton and is now accepting clients. The firm’s sole lawyer is Ethan C. Nobles (me!), managing editor of First Arkansas News.

MLK Day observed in Benton

As anyone with a calendar and/or a television set knows, Jan. 20 was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day throughout the nation. Former U.S. Pres. Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law as a way to commemorate the civil rights leader, but the holiday wasn’t officially observed by all 50 states in the nation until 2000. It is, then a fairly new holiday in the U.S.

Zapped VBS starts next week

First Baptist Church of Benton (FBC) is trying something new this year — moving vacation Bible school from the church to the Boys & Girls Club in Benton in an attempt to include more children in the community in the Sunday-Thursday event.

Rascals ruin crepe myrtles in Benton

The Benton Police Department announced that someone — or a group of fiendish someones — destroyed nine of the new crepe myrtle trees that were added as part of the city’s revitalization project on South Street. The trees have a replacement value of $750.

New Beginnings hosts open house

New Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center at 120 S. Conrad St. in Benton hosted an open house on Monday to give people a chance to tour the organization’s facility and discuss what services the nonprofit offers in the community.
New Beginnings offer services to parents in need of counseling, baby clothes, diapers, formula and other items that are costly but necessary for raising children. Kim Puska of New Beginnings said the facility provides services to 60 to 75 expecting mothers and women with infants every week. She said some single mothers are …
