December home sales up in northwest Arkansas

Considering how homes sales across Arkansas slumped in the second half of 2010, here’s a bit of a surprise — sales were up in northwest Arkansas in December.
According to statistics pulled from Arkansas Regional MLS (ARMLS), there were 456 homes sold in December in Benton, Carroll, Madison and Washington counties — up 10.68 percent from 412 sales during the same month in 2009.

ADFA drops mortgage interest rate

Here’s some good news for a lot of Arkansans wanting to buy homes and comparing what mortgage products are available — the Arkansas Development Finance Authority (ADFA) has dropped the interest rate on its HomeToOwn mortgage program from 5 percent to 4.5 percent and has some money available for people needing help with down payments.
HomeToOwn Murray Harding said he hopes today’s announcement from the ADFA will help more Arkansans secure financing to purchase houses. Granted, the 4.5 percent rate on a 30-year, fixed interest mortgage is a bit higher than …

Central Arkansas homes sales down in September

For the fourth month in a row, the sales of new and existing homes were down in central Arkansas.
There were 527 single-family, residential homes sold by Realtors through multiple listings services in Faulkner, Grant, Lonoke, Perry Pulaski and Saline counties in September — down 33.54 percent from 793 sales in the same month a year ago.
Through September, 6,057 homes were sold in central Arkansas — down 3.29 percent from 6,263 houses sold though the third quarter of 2009.

Lincoln says $700 million coming to Rural Development in Arkansas

U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) issued a press release Tuesday stating that the United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Program will receive the authority to guarantee $700 million in home loans in rural parts of Arkansas.
While the aforementioned news release is full of the expected election year back-patting and bragging, perhaps Lincoln deserves an accolade or two on this issue. Arkansas homes sales up in May

According to the Arkansas Realtors Association (ARA), homes sales in Arkansas were up sharply in May.
There were 2,524 single-family homes sold by Realtors through multiple listings services in the Natural State in May — up 14.16 percent over 2,211 sales in May 2009. The average sales price in May was $149,382 — down slightly from $149,454 a year ago.
