Nutt sacked

After a couple of wobbly seasons, Ole Miss officials announced today that this year will be the last one with Houston Nutt as head football coach.
“Our goal is to compete for championships, and we are not making progress in that regard,” said University of Mississippi Athletic Director Boone at a press conference on Monday afternon. “It’s time for our team to have new leadership and a new direction.”
Nutt coached at the University of Arkansas for 10 seasons and was hired by Ole Miss in 2008. In 2008 and 2009, Ole …

It’s official — Knile Davis possibly out for season

Well, Razorbacks fans, here’s the news none of us wanted to hear — star Arkansas running back Knile Davis is probably out for the season.
Davis sustained an injury to his left ankle in practice on Friday, Arkansas Head Coach Bobby Petrino said in a Friday news release on HogWired.com.
“I am extremely disappointed for Knile,” Petrino said in the news release. “He is a captain who was incredibly focused on the upcoming year. His leadership throughout the offseason was significant in the development of this team. Our athletic trainers and medical …

Knile Davis injured in practice

Both Arkansas and national media outlets are buzzing with news that Knile Davis — standout running back for the Arkansas Razorbacks — went down with an apparent leg injury on Thursday. The question, of course, is how severe the injury is and whether the junior star player will be out for the season. Yes, there’s speculation all over the place regarding the severity of the injury (the forums over at HogVille.net, for example, are simply brimming with concern, rumors and the like), but ESPN reports that there is no official …

How’d those Razorbacks do in the NFL draft?

The NFL draft has ended so the time is right to make a record of which Arkansas Razorbacks players went where and in which rounds.
First of all, there’s the highly-touted Ryan Mallett. The quarterback opted to turn pro rather than spending his senior year at Arkansas. While a lot of us in the Natural State hoped he would stick around for another year and set a few more school records, it’s hard to blame him for moving on to the NFL.
Initially, there was a lot of speculation that Mallett would …

Pelphrey back at Florida

Former Arkansas Razorbacks Head Basketball Coach has been introduced as an assistant to Billy Donovan at the University of Florida.
That move should look familiar to anyone who followed the Houston Nutt saga back in 2007. The ever controversial Nutt left Arkansas to become the head football coach at Ole Miss. Indeed, an Arkansas coach leaving the university and winding up at another school in the SEC is nothing new.
Pelphrey, of course, was fired last month after four seasons at Arkansas and has been replaced by former Arkansas assistant and Missouri …

Anderson brings Missouri staff to Razorbacks

Just yesterday, new Razorbacks Head Basketball Coach Mike Anderson announced who will round out his staff next year.
While some have been quick to point out that Anderson imported his Missouri staff, here’s what’s striking about tho will be coaching the Hogs next year — a lot of those cats have substantial ties to Arkansas. In fact, it might be argued at least a couple of them have come back home to Arkansas and — what’s more — they’re coming from an era to which a lot of Razorbacks fans would …

It’s official — Mike Anderson is a Razorback (again)

After a day full of speculation, the University of Arkansas announced Wednesday night that Mike Anderson will succeed John Pelphrey as the Razorbacks’ head basketball coach.
Actually, we’ve had close to two weeks of speculation about who would replace Pelphrey. Anderson, of course, is a fascinating choice in that he was an assistant coach for the only Razorbacks basketball team to win an NCAA championship (that was back in 1994 when the Hogs knocked of a heavily favored Duke team) and one can’t help but wonder if the new coach will …

Mike Anderson to Arkansas — maybe

Unless you’re one of those Arkansans who has been unconscious for the past couple of weeks, you’re well aware that the University of Arkansas told head basketball coach John Pelphrey to hit the road on March 13.
Naturally, there has been much speculation about who is to replace the much-maligned Pelphrey. We’ve heard that Minnesota’s Tubby Smith might take the gig, of course, and one name that keeps popping up is Missouri’s Mike Anderson.
Anderson’s name has — you guessed it — popped up once again. If this story from 40/29 is …

Mitch Mustain may avoid charges

Just last month we posted a story about former Springdale High School Quarterback Mitch Mustain being arrested in Los Angeles.
At the time, it appeared he would would face felony charges for allegedly selling Adderall — a controlled substance — online to an undercover officer. A few weeks after that, we posted another story stating it appeared Mustain would deal with a misdemeanor charge for allegedly passing off something else that is not a controlled substance as Aderall. That story, too, detailed how Mustain’s name has popped up in an NFL …
