Home sales slipped slightly in June in the 14 counties in which most sales in Arkansas take place.
Those 14 counties are located in central Arkansas, the Jonesboro area, the Fort Smith area and northwest Arkansas. Transactions in those areas make up 70 to 75 percent of all home sales in Arkansas every month.
In June, there were 1,772 homes sold during June in the major market areas measured by the The City Wire’s Arkansas Home Sales Report, down 3.22% compared to June 2011, and down 3.54% compared to June 2010. During …

Homes sales up, prices down

At long last, homes sales in Arkansas are on the rise but prices have dropped.

Sales up, prices down again in central Arkansas

It’s not exactly a trend yet, but the expanded August housing market report for central Arkansas shows that prices were up and sales were down for the second straight month.
Before getting into that, it’s important to point out that we’ve expanded the central Arkansas housing market reports we post monthly at First Arkansas News by adding a couple of counties — Jefferson and White.
Those two counties aren’t in the proper Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), but they are close enough to the region to be relevant to …

Week in Review — March 28-April 3

Yes, it was another week full of excitement here at First Arkansas News.
We’ve written about everything from the president of the National Lum and Abner Society to a drug-selling mailman in the past few days, so it’s time for a review.
Prior to getting into that, let’s go over a couple of other things. First of all, we should have a big announcement to make on Monday Tuesday that could shake up the way we do things around here (and improve them). Make sure to stop in for that.
Second, we sure …

The Week in Review

A heck of a lot of things have happened throughout Arkansas this week.
We’ve covered some of those events here at First Arkansas News, but certainly not all of the events followed by Arkansans this week. In the interest of providing a quick summary of some of the stories we’ve followed this week, we’ve put together a synopsis of  some of the more intriguing stories that have come out this week. And, yes, we’ll do the same thing every weekend.
Before getting into all of that, let me make a quick plug …

The latest confusing foreclosure news

Trying to keep up with what’s happening with foreclosures around the nation is confusing, indeed.
At the end of November, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – the government-sponsored enterprises which underwrite the bulk of mortgages in the United States – told real estate agents to resume with sales of foreclosed properties. That was a significant announcement as Fannie and Freddie had about 240,000 properties set for foreclosure at the end of September.
Concerns over the adequacy of paperwork filed in foreclosure actions, however, caused Fannie and Freddie to order a halt to …
