Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac give green light to foreclosures

To muddle the foreclosure issue just a bit further, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac told real estate agents last week to resume selling foreclosed properties.
Why’s that significant? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — the government sponsored enterprises (GSE) that have underwritten the majority of mortgages in the nation — had about 240,000 properties set for foreclosure at the end of September. It was about that time that Fannie and Freddie called for a moratorium on foreclosures due to concerns about the adequacy of court filings.

Bank of America puts a stop to foreclosures

Well, here’s some news — Bank of America has put a stop to foreclosures until it can review the adequacy of documents it has filed in court.
In a vague statement Bank of America released Friday, the company said it was going to review foreclosure documents it has filed in every state in the U.S. That’s quite a statement when one considers that Bank of America holds about one in every five mortgages in the nation.

Foreclosure rights

Every now and again, I’ll get called on to put together some commentary for a local publication.
Such things happen when you happen to be the director of media relations for the Arkansas Realtors Association (ARA).  Real estate is big news these days, and it’s one of the missions of the ARA to let the public know what we think about certain issues.

Facing foreclosure? Charney says you have rights

April Carrie Charney, senior staff attorney at the Jacksonville, Florida, Area Legal Aid, presented a program to housing counselors attending the Preventing Foreclosure Seminar in Fayetteville on April 22. The event, held April 22 and 23, was put on by Legal Aid of Arkansas.
Charney said consumers have a well defined set of rights that can be used to defend against foreclosures and was at the seminar to inform attorneys, housing counselors and Realtors of those rights.
