BPO legislation passes Legislature

Arkansas appraisers hate it, Realtors have lobbied hard for it and now it’s cleared the state Legislature.
What are we talking about? SB720 — a bill that authorizes real estate agents to give broker price opinions (BPO) in those circumstances when a full appraisal is deemed unnecessary.

Senate committee to take up BPO legislation next week

The Arkansas Senate Committee on Insurance and Commerce will take up SB720 — a bill that has sparked some controversy — on Tuesday morning.
What is SB720? A measure that would essentially regulate broker price opinions (BPOs)– estimates of home values given by real estate agents when a full appraisal is not required. Making improvements to your home may increase its value when the time comes to sell it, but perhaps not in the way most people think.
Some people are under the impression that they’ll get a “dollar to dollar” return on an investment should they opt to improve their homes – a $15,000 kitchen renovation should translate into a $15,000 boost in the sales price, right?
