June 1 scholarship deadline looming

LITTLE ROCK—If you want financial aid through any of the state’s programs for college this fall or spring, you don’t have much longer to be able to ask.
According to a press release from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, all state financial aid applications must be completed through the web-based YOUniversal Financial Aid System no later than the end of the night on Wednesday, June 1 to be eligible for funding for fall or spring of this academic year.

Exchange of higher ed power

LITTLE ROCK–Two announcements came out of Little Rock today that will influence Arkansas’ higher education system.
Jim Purcell, director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, was appointed the commissioner of Louisiana’s higher education system. Purcell started his position at the ADHE in 2008.
The second announcement was that Gov. Mike Beebe named ADHE Deputy Director Shane Broadway as interim director of the agency, which governs the state’s 11 universities and 22 community colleges.
