Participating law enforcement agencies are taking a no-excuses approach to enforcing the seat belt law and will be writing tickets.
Research has been found that lap/shoulder seat belts, when used, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger vehicle occupants by 45% and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50%. Among the nearly 34,000 people injured in crashes in Oklahoma during 2016, 2,500 were not restrained.
In New York State, seat belt usage is 90%.
From May 21 until June 3, local agencies are pushing their "Click it or Ticket" campaign to increase seat belt enforcement.
According to operation pull over coordinator Sgt. Brent Campbell of the RPD, 2018 marks the 30 year anniversary that seat belt use became mandatory in Indiana. "Simply buckling up can save your life and the life of your passenger".
An increased police presence will stress the proper use of seat belts and making sure all young passengers are properly restrained inside moving vehicles with auto seats or booster seats.

As summer kicks off and families hit the road for vacations, the Greene County Safe Communities Coalition is reminding motorists to Click It or Ticket.
