Karnataka went to polls on Saturday with 4.94 crore voters exercising their franchise to decide the fates of over 2500 candidates.
The Rajarajeshwari Nagar incident, where over 10,000 voter cards were found in a flat allegedly owned by aides of incumbent Congress MLA Munirathna, leading to the postponement of polls in the seat, made a mockery of democracy.

The day was by and large free of any major incidents as police and paramilitary forces kept a close watch.

Exit polls on Saturday after the Karnataka assembly election predicted a hung assembly in the state with six surveys showing BJP as the single largest party and the three showing Congress in the lead. The re-poll is likely to be held on Sunday. Over 15 lakh people are first-time voters in the 18-19 age group. A person in Shahpur chose to cast his vote before performing the final rites of his mother, who had passed away in the morning.
In what is being termed as a "women-oriented" step, the poll panel has set up 450 "pink booths" which are being managed entirely by women. Two such booths were in Bangalore, while a few more were spread out in other districts.
Stories of villagers opening their homes to help the staff, especially the women, are many. But polling picked up again once the rain stopped. A victory in Karnataka would yet again prove PM Modi to be the most charismatic Indian politician of recent times and his party's biggest match victor.
