Police reassure parents after hoax bomb threat sent to schools in Cambridgeshire

The email threatened to detonate a bomb, unless a ransom for thousands of dollars was met.

A large number of schools across Cambridgeshire received bomb threats this morning (March 19).

Bilton School in Rugby was evacuated today following one of the malicious phone calls, the school has confirmed.

Police don't think the threat is genuine. but the email is being investigated nationally by Scotland Yard.

'Schools have been visited by police to reassure them that the incident is being treated as a hoax and address any concerns.

Over 400 schools across England received hoax bomb threats on Monday morning that were believed to have come from the United States, according to police.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "We take hoaxes extremely seriously as they divert our resources and can cause disruption and alarm to the public".

VeltPvP is a Minecraft player-versus-player server - a type of server run by businesses that sell items in-game to players.

We have been working closely with schools this morning and have advised them to make contact with parents.

Velt denied any wrongdoing, with chief executive Carson Kallen telling sky news, "I hope the person responsible [for the hoaxes] gets caught".

The newspaper also reports that Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary school in Tolworth was evacuated.

In a statement, VeltPvP said: "We've been being harassed by a group of cybercriminals that are trying to harass us in any way possible".

An East Lancashire school is among hundreds up and down the country which received a threatening e-mail as part of a hoax bomb threat.
