Ending speculations that Nagaland is heading towards a constitutional crisis, Neiphiu Rio is set to take oath as the Indian state's chief minister on Thursday.
Nagaland's Governor PB Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the Council of Ministers headed by Rio at the swearing-in ceremony on March 8 at 11:30 am at Khouchiezie (Kohima Local Ground). "We want to send the message that this government will be among the people, and not insulated from them, and also that Nagaland will have peace and everyone is safe", a senior BJP leader said.

Iterating one of the promises made by the NDPP in its election manifesto, Rio said his government will remove VIP culture from Nagaland and ensure that the citizens are treated as "real VIPs". After winning the Lok Sabha seat in 2014, he passed on the CM's office to TR Zeliang, a move that was criticised by many. It must be noted that the BJP contested 2018 Nagaland assembly elections in alliance with the NDPP after quitting its 15-year-old alliance with the ruling Naga People's Front (NPF).
KOHIMA, Mar 7:Governor Acharya, in a letter to Mr Rio, asked him to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before March 16, says the source.
National People's Party's (NPP) State president Ato Yepthomi said he had also submitted a letter supporting Mr Rio to the Governor. The independent candidate Tongpang Ozukum and JD (U)'s G Kaito Aye were also inducted into the new cabinet.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union minister Kiren Rijiju, BJP president Amit Shah and the party general secretary Ram Madhav were all present at the swearing-in ceremony. The NPF has also warned of "revisiting" its ties with the BJP in Manipur, where NPF is a part of the coalition, after the BJP severed ties with it on Tuesday.
