In a shocking incident, an irate mob today dragged out two rape accused from a police station in Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh and beat them to death.
This incident bears resemblance to a similar case that took place in Nagaland's Dimapur town in March 2015.
"The mob damaged the station and took away the accused before beating them to death with clubs, hammers and stones", Lohit police chief Isaac Pertin told AFP.
In the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, the rape and murder of a teenage girl was followed by a suspect being killed in custody in 2017, while in nearby Haryana, the gang rape of two schoolgirls created shockwaves last month. The crowd gathered outside the police lock-up and dragged the accused from the police lock-up.More news: We're due soon for another SpaceX launch from Vandenberg

A senior police officer of Lohit district said, "The two accused were produced at the district court on Monday morning". Police claimed the two men had confessed to the crime. The mob tried to set the bodies on fire but was stopped by a large police contingent. They found her body barely 200-300 yards inside the dense tea garden area behind the family's house on 17 February. The police could do nothing as the mob had overpowered them as well.
The accused, both plantation workers from neighbouring Assam state, were being questioned by police when a hundreds-strong mob carrying weapons stormed the compound yesterday.
A case had been registered but no one has been arrested so far, he added.
Terming the incident as "unfortunate", Arunachal CM Pema Khandu ordered a police inquiry and said,"We are citizens of great country who abide by the law enshrined in constitution. Our laid down rules and regulations do not allow us to take the law in our hands", Khandu said, appealing to the people to maintain peace.
