However, in what could be an uncomfortable precursor to life after Brexit, the Dutch government has not yet got the immigration and passport controls in place to provide seamless travel from Amsterdam to London.
Eurostar is launching a direct London to Amsterdam train service in April but passengers heading for the United Kingdom will still have to change trains and go through security checks in Brussels south. For the journey, ticket prices will start at £35 one-way.
This new service was preceded by a comprehensive testing of the Netherlands high speed network and the building of Eurostar terminals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
The new Eurostar route will see two trains a day leave St Pancreas for the Netherlands capital - famed for it's weed-selling coffee shops and Red Light District.
The launch of the London to Amsterdam service marks a historic milestone in the expansion of worldwide high speed rail travel, revolutionising the connection between these important destinations.More news: Westerville, Ohio officers killed in shooting

It says more than four million passengers travel between London and Amsterdam by air each year and therefore the market is the same size as it was when the London-Paris services launched in 1994. The Amsterdam - London service would not set down passengers at Brussels South with boarding only permitted at this station.
Dutch services will commence with two departures a day from London St. Pancras, at 8:31 a.m and 5:31 p.m., Eurostar said in a statement.
It points out that since then, the market for travel between London and Paris has more than doubled.
Eurostar expects an agreement will be in place by the end of 2019 that would allow passengers to travel direct both ways. Stay on the train for another hour and 13 and you're in Rotterdam, and Amsterdam is only another 40 minutes from there.
A new link has been built, reducing the London to Brussels journey time by 17 minutes to one hour 48.
