Battlefront II's loot box system was removed the night before the game's proper release, after a week of pre-release players becoming increasingly frustrated with the progression system.

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" was first released on November 17 and was specifically released roughly a month before the premiere of "The Last Jedi".
EA CEO Andrew Wilson has stated the company never meant to build an experience which was considered unfair to Star Wars Battlefront 2 players, and the resulting backlash was a "learning opportunity" for the firm. Moving forward it will be interesting to see the relationship between Disney and EA in regards to Star Wars. That puts it only a little behind Battlefront I, which had sold 14 million copies by the end of March 2016 and had 5% less digital sales than the sequel.
