Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant took a shot to the knee in the third quarter on a touchdown drive that put the Tigers up 21-0. He was examined in the sideline medical tent and then attempted a few warm-up jogs on the sideline, but did not return to the game.
The Tigers (6-0, 4-0 in ACC) haven't lost to Wake Forest (4-2, 1-2) since Dabo Swinney became Clemson's coach midway through the 2008 season.
Prior to his exit, Bryant had thrown for 200 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing for 39 yards on 12 carries. If Bryant's injury is significant, Clemson might have to open things up with strong armed backups Zerrick Cooper and Hunter Johnson. "He's the most important player on what might be the best team in the country". It was Cain's 16th career touchdown reception, but just his second this season and his first since the season opener against Kent State. The Demon Deacons attempted to answer on their next series as a 43-yard pass and 15-yard facemask penalty gave the Demon Deacons the ball at the Tigers' 13-yard line.
Wake Forest kicker Mike Weaver, who had converted all 10 of his field goal attempts this season, missed a 34-yarder late in the first quarter, then misfired on a 50-yard attempt early in the third quarter.
The Tigers' defense continued to impress as they held Wake Forest to less than 350 yards of total offense (336) and only 14 points - which came against the Tigers' second and third string. Clawson said if Hinton had gotten hurt, Wolford could've seen action.
