Ensuring the stability of the Olympic Games for the athletes of the world for the next 11 years is something extraordinary.
This ends a string of unsuccessful bids by Paris after they tried to land the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Olympics. That recommendation is expected to be ratified this week in Peru. But as the race heated up, rumblings around the process began to suggest the IOC was interested in awarding each city with an Olympic Games, deciding on a 2028 host more than a decade out.
It is the first time the International Olympic Committee has awarded a Games 11 years in advance.
Paris is set take its place alongside London as the only three-time hosts of the Summer Games in 2024.
Los Angeles then dropped its bid for the 2024 Olympics, for which it had been campaigning for over two years, in return for receiving the 2028 edition. It's the third time each city will host the Olympics. The IOC made a decision to award two games at the same time in a history-making vote, putting the rubber stamp on the pre-determined conclusion.
"This is a win-win-win situation for Paris, Los Angeles and the entire Olympic movement", said IOC president Thomas Bach. L.A. loves the Olympics because the Games have lifted up our city twice before.
The race began early in 2015 with a different USA candidate but the abysmal public support for Boston forced that city to part ways with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) who turned to Los Angeles instead just days before the application deadline. The city plans to use the Coliseum in 2028, meaning it will have been part of three Olympics.More news: Mnuchin Admits 15 Percent Corporate Rate Unlikely

As expected, International Olympic Committee members approved an agreement made among the two cities and International Olympic Committee leaders earlier this summer to make the historic double award.
LA 2028, the renamed committee leading the city's bid, had proposed a balanced budget of $5.3 billion for '24 by utilizing existing venues and not building any new permanent structures just for the Games. The California city's selection for 2028 represents the ninth time the Games will be held in the USA, three more than any other country.
Los Angeles has bid 10 times, and its path to 2028 was long and circuitous.
In January 2015, the USOC initially selected Boston as the U.S.'s candidate. The IOC also agreed to funnel any of its profits from the Games back to the city.

"Many times every city is working so hard.to build the infrastructure, they can't think about the environment, they can't think about the economy, they can't think about the health of their people".
