Top militant of Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) Ayub Lelhari was killed in Pulwama, J&K police said on Wednesday.
SSP Pulwama Choudhary Muhammad Aslam said LeT district commander Ayoub Lelhari was killed in a brief encounter with forces at Banderpora, Quil village in Pulwama district today.
Security forces has earlier this month killed Lashkar commander Abu Dujana while he was on a secret visit to meet his wife. "He opened fire on seeing the security personnel who closed in on the vehicle, but was killed in retaliatory firing. The terrorist was killed in the crossfire", he said.
Director General of Police, Shesh Paul Vaid confirmed it saying "He was one of the most wanted terrorists".

Police sources said security men arrested a driver of the vehicle and his questioning was going on. "His killing is a major success and it has weakened the militant network in Pulwamam", the spokesman said.
The encounter comes three days after three Hizbul Muajhideen militants, including the outfit's operational commander Yasin Itoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi, were killed in a gunbattle on Sunday. The operation began after security forces received information of the presence of militants in the area.
The police cordoned the Kakpora village after receiving inputs about presence of Ayub and tried to catch the terrorist.
Meanwhile, a CRPF trooper, who was injured in a grenade attack by militants in central Kashmir's Budgam district on August 14, succumbed to injuries on Wednesday at SKIMS hospital in Srinagar.
