On Monday, the Patna High Court dismissed PILs filed by RJD MLAs Saroj Yadav and Chandan Verma and another PIL by Samajwadi Party member Jitendra Kumar challenging the formation of the new government by Nitish's JD (U) along with the BJP. Yadav opposed the decision and called the entire episode "unfortunate". However, Nitish made a decision to end the party's ties with the alliance after deputy CM of the state and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over corruption charges.
"I told them to say factual things that would benefit the Grand Alliance but there was arrogance from the other side".
In a whirlwind week, Nitish had quickly resigned as Bihar Chief Minister and had as quickly aligned with the BJP. "It is unfortunate", Yadav told reporters outside Parliament, breaking a silence that many saw as a sign of his disapproval early on. "There is nobody who has the capacity to take on Modi", Nitish Kumar said in reply to a question about the next general elections in which he has been speculated as a possible Prime Ministerial candidate.
On August 19, JD (U) leaders are all set to meet at their party forum in Patna. The BJP has washed its hands over him. A large number of JD (U) leaders are also unhappy with Kumar's decision and believe that the mandate of the people in Bihar in 2015 was not for this. His resignation was on the charge of corruption within the RJD against Lalu's son Tejashwi. On what happens to his national ambitions, Nitish said he was performing them by serving the people of Bihar. "I gave prominence to Nitish Kumar during the JP students' movement", he said, adding that Nitish had organized his own farewell from politics.
The vote and a discussion before it were held amid protests and slogan shouting by Lalu Yadav's RJD, now the chief opposition party.
Elaborating on what went on behind the scenes after the CBI filed a graft case and conducted raids on the Yadav's properties, Nitish said he had tried to ignore the furor in the media.
Yadav was not alone in his diatribe against Kumar.
