Weekend OTR — Shorty Bell, Cub Reporter

By: 22 June 2013 No Comment

Mickey RooneyIt’s another weekend and you know what that means — its time to head back to the Golden Age of Radio with our Weekend OTR series.

We’re talking about some handpicked entertainment here, folks, and we’ve got an episode on tap that even the most dedicated old time radio fans may have overlooked — an episode of Shorty Bell, Cub Reporter. That short-lived series starred the famed Mickey Rooney. He played a newspaper delivery truck reporter who wanted to be a reporter. That desire got him in the middle of all kinds of breaking news and more than a few fights (Shorty had a short fuse, seemingly). So, get ready for a big wad of fun, kids.

Before you listen to this week’s program that, why not take a minute or two and visit the good folks at OTRCat.com? You’ll find a huge selection of old time radio programs over there and prices that are hard to beat. Oh, and don’t forget to come back every Sunday and check out the latest Lum and Abner comic strip posted here at First Arkansas News. We’ve got a new one of those every weekend and it’s just the thing for you old time radio fans — new adventures starring a couple of Arkansas boys who became international stars during the Golden Age of Radio.

Having said all of that, click the below link to listen to this week’s program.
