Awesome Site of the Week: Jony Ive Redesigns Things

By: 30 June 2013 One Comment

New, improved Apple logoIt’s time once again for another installment in our famed Awesome Site of the Week series. It’s our chance to point out a few sites that are totally awesome but you might not have run across in your Internet travels. No, these aren’t the big boys that have marketing dollars to spend on television ads and the like, but these sites are put together by people who deserve some attention for their great work.

What’s the awesome site this week? The side-splitting Jony Ive Redesigns Things. That is a Tumblr site that is little more than a lighthearted parody of the senior vice president of design for Apple Inc. The site was apparently a response to the regressive, pastel-hued nightmare that is the new, “improved” Apple iOS 7 (if you haven’t seen the new operating system that will power iPhones, iPads and iPods this fall, click here for a review of the beta).

Yes, it seems that Apple has decided to punish its users for claiming iOS had become stale and is going to shake things up a bit by unleashing something that has a lot of great features but causes headaches and is just plain ugly. As a lot of blame for the new iOS has been placed is Ive’s feet, it’s little wonder that a site has popped up that simply makes fun of the man and some of his more bizarre ideas.

What will you find over at Jony Ive Redesigns Things? A lot of user-submitted content that takes a look at real world objects such as traffic signs and depicts what would happen if Ive got his mitts on them and ruined them. You’ll also find images that range from mild parodies to outlandish exaggerations of the odd notions embedded in iOS 7 taken to their logical extremes.

Check it out by clicking here. You won’t regret it. Well, you might get irritated if you happen to like the new look of iOS 7, but why not grow a sense of humor and enjoy the show? Believe this — once iOS 7 is inflicted on the public, the parodies of Apple’s new operating system are only going to get meaner.
