As our loyal readers no doubt noticed, First Arkansas News was down for a couple of days.
What happened? Our old hosting company, JustHost.com, decided to suspend our account. Did we get any warning? No. Did Just Host offer to leave the site up for a few days until we could migrate to a new server? Again, no. While one might argue that’s pitiful behavior from a company that has hosted First Arkansas News since the site was founded in April 2010, there’s no use being bitter about everything. Rather, Just Host’s decision here is somewhat understandable — First Arkansas News is simply too awesome for the company’s servers to handle.
Go ahead and scoff, but Just Host admitted as much in its email explaining why our account had been suspended. In short, First Arkansas News was getting too much traffic and that was putting a strain on the budget hosting company’s servers. Yes, First Arkansas News is growing and it was time to find a new home. We’re just glad our old landlord (as it were) was good enough to allow us back in to get our stuff rather than simply locking down all our files and telling us to beat it.
After a lot of hand-wringing and scrambling around for a couple of days, we have found a new hosting company — Little Rock’s own Hudson Creative Solutions (HudsonCS) . That company is owned by David Hudson, our good friend who has contributed an article or two to First Arkansas News over the years.
Yes, Hudson helped us solve our problem quickly. We appreciate his fantastic server fees, attentive customer service and devotion (Dave burned that midnight oil for a couple of nights as he stayed up late helping us get back up and running again).
So, we’d like to thank Dave for his help and encourage anyone looking for a truly awesome Web host to check out Hudson Creative Solutions.
As for Just Host, well if you can’t say something nice…
