Well, we got that completely wrong…

By: 14 September 2011 One Comment

Last week, we reported that our Lum and Abner comic strip would appear weekly in the Saline Courier starting on Sept. 11.

Sept. 11 came and went and the comic didn’t run. Rather than compound our error, we decided to not print a thing about the delay until we found out for sure what happened. Courier Managing Editor Brent Davis said it didn’t show up on Sept. 11 for want of space — as any American who has paid attention knows, Sept. 11 marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

The Courier, then, was packed full of articled commemorating that significant anniversary and who can blame the newspaper for that?

So, what happens now? The Lum and Abner strip will debut today (Sept. 14) ad then will run every Sunday after that. UPDATE — I’m told it didn’t work out for the Sept. 14 edition, either, and the strip will debut on Thursday, Sept. 15.

That brings us to two newspapers running the strip — the Courier here in Benton and the Mena Star. Our goal is to add more publications in the near future.

Many thanks to the Saline Courier! I hope the readers in the Benton area will enjoy “Lum and Abner” today and every Sunday. For our blind friends who have Internet access, remember that our audio versions of each strip appear right here at FirstArkansasNews.net!
