Not fit for man or beast …

By: 1 July 2011 One Comment

Hot enough for you? The temperatures throughout the state have reached the high 90s with heat indices (“it feels like…”) in the low hundreds. It doesn’t matter what month it is, that’s just hot.

And potentially dangerous.

We know you’ve all heard it before, but still pay attention. It’s vital for both humans and animals to stay hydrated and cool in this hot weather.

We asked our friend Rhonda Fincher of the Kendrick Fincher Hydration Foundation to share a few tips with us about staying healthy in this heat.

The Foundation offers two pamphlets that give good tips but essentially, don’t stay out in the heat. Drink water, not soda (even diet, caffeine free soda isn’t good because of the sodium). Definitely be careful when drinking alcohol.

This first pamphlet is geared towards athletes but the principles are the same.

This second pamphlet is geared towards teaching kids about proper hydration.

We also want our furry friends to stay cool in the heat (would YOU want to wear a fur coat in this mess?) Check out some summertime hints from the ASCPA.
