Pitchford interviewed on KGAS

By: 27 June 2011 2 Comments

Donnie Pitchford — the tireless artist responsible for the great Lum and Abner comic strips published here at First Arkansas News — was interviewed this week on KGAS 104.3-FM and 1590-AM in Carthage, Texas.

Those of you who are regular visitors to First Arkansas News are aware that we launched the Lum and Abner strips at the first of this month and add a new one every Sunday. That effort was made possible by a bunch of kind sponsors who got behind the project and, of course, Chet Lauck Jr.’s decision to allow us the rights to use the likenesses of Lum and Abner.

If you haven’t taken a look at the Lum and Abner strips yet, click here and give them a look. Click here to listen to Pitchford’s interview, which was conducted by KGAS News Director-Chief Operator Daron McDaniel.

Pitchford, of course, talked about the comic strip project and gave out some information about the history of Lum and Abner. you’ll find more about the history of Lum and Abner (and why a lot of us in Arkansas are still fans of those old time radio legends who grew up in Mena) here.

For you Lum and Abner fans who haven’t checked out our store yet, click here to see what you’ve been missing. Grab a mug, a tee shirt, a mousepad or all three and rest assured we’ll be adding more products in the near future.

Congratulations on bringing back such classic humor with the new Lum & Abner strips. Pine Ridge, AR, is in our county and we are extremely proud of the preservation of history that the Stuckers carry on with their maintaining Lum & Abner town. We mentioned your website and the comic strip in a recent ‘Museum Corner’ column that is printed weekly in our local Montgomery County News. I certainly hope more folks will discover your website and also enjoy laughing once again with the wonderful wholesome humor of Lum & Abner. Donnie Pitchford deserves much praise!!!!
