Let’s go fly a kite

By: 10 April 2011 No Comment

Last spring the Benton A&P Commission sponsored The First Annual Kite Fest. This year a group of volunteers has stepped forward to continue the event.

A grass roots effort was started by a few members of to keep this event going. One of the people spearheading the effort is Joy Buchanan with Your Community Access Television (YCAT), In the span of  two weeks, what started as a few people bringing their own kites down to Watts Field (the old Saline County Airport) and enjoying a day of fun in the sun has turned into a real kite fest.

With the support of the city of Benton, and donations made by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep, The Saline Courier, Benton Chamber of Commerce, First Security Bank, Baxley-Penfield-Moudy Realtors and WalMart, the Kite Fest will be held April 16, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Watts Field, (the old Saline County Airport) off Exit 116.

Kites will be given free to the first 250 people, and the Benton Mayor’s Youth Advisory council will be available to help assemble them.

Concessioners and vendors will be there to complete the fun. If you’d like to become a vendor, please call (501)776-3167.
