Wye Mountain festival — a sure sign spring is in the air

By: 12 March 2011 No Comment

It’s been a miserable winter here in central Arkansas, what with a couple of major snowstorms (major for us, anyway) and more than a few days below freezing.

How many people are looking forward to the start of spring? More than a few, I’d imagine.

Perhaps, then, the news that the Wye Mountain Daffodil Festival is in full swing will be more welcome this year than it has been in some time. That event, after all, is widely viewed as the one that marks the beginning of spring. Do we still have some frigid days in store? Perhaps, by the Wye Mountain Festival marks the point where we know those are near an end.

What is the festival? Simply put, it’s in a big field that is packed with daffodils. Honestly, you’ve got to see it to believe it — it is that impressive. The festival starts today and tomorrow (March 12-13) and continues next weekend (March 19-20). You’ll find food, people wandering around taking photos and just a whole lot to do out there.

Where is it? Just outside of Little Rock and you’ll find directions here. Follow the event on Facebook here. The weather is perfect for it this year, so why not grab your family and make a day of it?
