ESPN says Pelphrey fired
If an ESPN article is right, John Pelphrey has been dismissed as the head basketball coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the University of Arkansas will make a formal announcement confirming that later today.
Of course, if the UA does make such an announcement, we’ll post a link to it here at First Arkansas News. If the ESPN story turns out to be wrong, we’ll mention that, too. In other words — stay tuned.
Anyone who has been around Arkansas this year has noticed that fans have grown increasingly irritated with Pelphrey. This is his fourth season and the Hogs wound up riding a six-game losing streak at the end of the year to an 18-12 record and a “one and done” performance in the SEC tournament against Tennessee. The Hogs went from having a shot at getting into the NCAA tournament to having no chance at all to making the cut within a matter of days.
Still, one has to wonder — we let Houston Nutt stick around as the UA head football coach for 10 seasons. It’s a complete mystery why that well-established imbecile was allowed to hang around for so long yet Pelphrey was shown the door after four seasons.
Strange, but such is life in Arkansas.
At any rate, should ESPN be proven right, good luck to Pelphrey and let’s hope Arkansas finally finds a coach that produces the results that fans want.
