Weekend OTR: Red Ryder — Selling Horses to the Army

By: 14 January 2011 One Comment

The weekend is here and we all know what that means — another installment in the Weekend OTR series here at First Arkansas News.

This week we’ve got a Red Ryder episode for you from way on back in 1945. We’re talking about a cultural icon here, folks. The famed Red Ryder character has been in comic strips, comic books on television and (of course) on an old time radio show. Furthermore, the BB gun is central to A Christmas Story, that holiday classic in which poor Ralphie obsesses over the carbine.

Here’s a bit of trivia for you folks. Daisy Outdoor Products, the company that makes the Red Ryder, started out in Plymouth, Mich., and moved its headquarters and manufacturing to Rogers, Ark., in 1958. Daisy is still headquartered in Rogers and the Daisy Airgun Museum is still in that city, but the manufacturing facilities were moved out of Rogers in the 1990s (manufacturing, exporting and importing are run out of Neosho, Mo., these days).

As always, this episode is brought to you by our friends at Pay The Cat a visit and take advantage of some low prices on old time radio programs and keep this in mind — something is always on sale over there.

Just click the below player to enjoy the show.
