Big Thermos Media is launched

By: 30 January 2011 One Comment

Last weekend, we at First Arkansas News mentioned a new venture — Big Thermos Media.

What’s Big Thermos Media? Let’s sum it up a bit — an advertising cooperative among a bunch of Internet and one print publication in Arkansas. Some of the sites — like this one — cover news from across the state while others focus mostly on central Arkansas.

Our goal here is simple — we all get  a ton of traffic and would like to offer advertisers the chance to reach some of that traffic. We all know that journalism is changing in that Internet-based publications are gaining in popularity and there are plenty of reasons to believe that trend will continue.

Some of the publications who have agreed to let Big Thermos Media represent them for the purpose of securing advertising have some experience selling advertisements, but some of us couldn’t sell ice cubes in hell. Fortunately for those of us who grew up on the editorial sides of newspapers, we’ve got an advertising representative — Darlene Devers who has been in sales for a few decades and spent a good part of that time selling print and Internet ads for The Commercial Appeal in Memphis.

What publications are represented by Big Thermos Media? Here’s the list:

* Arkansas Ties

* Arkansite

* Bryant Daily

* Coffee News (also a print publication)

* First Arkansas News

We hope to add more publications to our merry band in the future and are confident we will so long as our concept works — it makes a lot of sense to us to offer advertisers the chance to reach the thousands of visitors that come to our sites every month at a low rate. Time will tell if that concept is sound. We think we’ve come up with a good plan and are proud to announce it’s time to execute it.

If you want to buy an ad, click here to send an email to Devers and get the ball rolling.
