Tell us about your book, what’s it about?

The poems in Mortal Geography, often narrative and formally playful, evolved over more than 10 years and five states. Drawing in part on my experiences teaching writing and grammar at a diverse urban community college, they explore the ways in which we navigate loss, love, history, language, place, displacement, and other sad yet often absurdly humorous geographies of being human.

Where is the book available to purchase? local bookstores,

What inspires you to write?

I’m inspired by family stories, my own experiences, my students, language itself, newspaper articles, travel, history, etc.

Any other thoughts or information you want to share?

Having grown up in Eureka Springs, but then moved away from Arkansas for many years, I’ve been thrilled to be back as a visiting professor at the U of A this semester.
