Arkansas Author: Alexandra Teague
Occupation: Visiting Professor of Poetry at the University of Arkansas
Title of Book: Mortal Geography (winner of Persea Books’ 2009 Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize)
Publisher: Persea Books
Target Audience: Lovers of poetry or narrative
The poems in Mortal Geography, often narrative and formally playful, evolved over more than 10 years and five states. Drawing in part on my experiences teaching writing and grammar at a diverse urban community college, they explore the ways in which we navigate loss, love, history, language, place, displacement, and other sad yet often absurdly humorous geographies of being human.
