War of the Worlds

By: 28 October 2010 One Comment

Well, it isn’t exactly the weekend but I’m going to go ahead and post an old time radio episode, anyway.

Why? I can’t help it — Halloween is dandy fun and some appropriate OTR programs making it even more enjoyable. That being the case, a special edition of the famed OTR Series here at First Arkansas News is appropriate. Clearly. Really.

While these fine OTR programs are generally provided by our friends over at OTRCat.com, that’s not the case here. Still, pay The Cat a visit should you want to pick up some great old time radio programs for prices that are low, low, low. The Cat has some great specials on Halloween-themed collections right now, so don’t miss out on that.

At any rate, the program at issue here is a great one — it’s one that Orson Welles scared the heck out of everyone with on the night before Halloween back in 1938. Yes, we’re talking about the Mercury Theater adaptation of The War of the Worlds, a science fiction novel by H.G. Wells. Yes, the quasi-newscast format used throughout the first three-fourths of the program caused some people to panic.

At any rate, click the below player and give it a listen. Boo!
