New life for C.W. Lewis Stadium?

By: 22 September 2010 One Comment

About a month ago, the Benton School Board voted 4-3 to essentially abandon C.W. Lewis Stadium in favor of a snazzy, $10.8 million facility in the Benton Athletic Complex.

Naturally, a lot of residents of this fair city were irate — the Benton Panthers have played football at C.W. Lewis since 1934 and the efforts to toss out the downtown facility like an aluminum can alongside I-30 were not viewed favorably in some circles.

Two of the four School Board members who voted for the new stadium — Steve Deere and Judd Hart — were up for reelection on Tuesday. Both of them lost. Paul Viner beat Deere 1,054 to 728. Wade Goodwin beat Hart 1,203 to 629.

And the funny thing is both Deere and Hart emphasized their support for a new stadium in their campaigns. Way to go, fellas — some C.W. Lewis supporters who were planning to vote in Tuesday’s election might have forgotten exactly who made them angry.

Naturally, there is some feeling in this town that getting rid of those two “yes” votes might be enough to save C.W. Lewis. We’ll see if that happens.

This cost of regular rewards, and then in season grows found in rate paid, can be sure symptoms of economical practicality.
