‘Benton Courier’ now ‘Saline Courier’

By: 11 August 2010 2 Comments

The Benton Courier released some big news the other day — the paper has changed its name to The Saline Courier.

Such news might not matter one whit to people who aren’t from around here, but it’s a major change for those of us who have been in the area for awhile. The paper has been around since 1876 and has spent most of that time tied to Benton, the county seat and largest city in the county.

Still, the change makes a lot of sense. After all, there are now over 105,000 people living in Saline County, Bryant has just boomed over the past decade and the county is gelling as a region more than as a collection of towns.

The Courier has been covering news throughout the county for some time now, so it makes a certain kind of sense to reflect that coverage and embrace the “regional” concept.

Good luck to the paper and make sure to visit it online at

    “One whit?” Really? So bad!

So much for tradition and history. This is almost as bad as the decision to make the paper smaller.
Well it’s your paper so we have no say.
