By: 4 August 2010 No Comment

ROGERS–Alex Carr has been to Austin, Texas, before but this time it will be to sing his heart out.

Carr was named the winner of Arkansas Idol, a contest held Wednesday the Victory Theater in Rogers. Arkansas Idol is one of many similar contests where local folk are picked to represent their area at auditions for American Idol. Idol appears on Fox and it was the local Fox 24 that sponsored Wednesday’s event.Winners of the contests don’t have to wait with the thousands of other contestants–they get an automatic audition with Idol producers.

Carr beat out nearly 90 other contestants for the second annual competition. Judges narrowed the 89 singers to 12 and then several close ties in the voting made a sing-off necessary. Carr was chosen from the top five.

His song choices throughout the competition were:

  • “Let’s Get it On”;
  • “Killing Me Softly”;
  • “A House is Not a Home”;
  • “At Last”; and
  • “Bohemian Rhapsody.

Carr said he sings locally, including in a couple of bands. He can’t wait to visit Austin–a city he loves already, Carr said, adding that this will be his first trip on an airplane.Another local favorite, Kris Allen of the Conway area earned the top American Idol honor last season.

The Austin auditions are Aug. 10-12.
