Weekend OTR — I was a Communist for the FBI: The Little Red

By: 30 July 2010 2 Comments

Another weekend and another episode of the (soon to be famous) Weekend OTR series here at First Arkansas News.

Yes, what could be more fun than kicking back and listening to a fun-filed old time radio program? This week’s episode is from the I Was a Communist for the FBI series which was produced in the 1950s and based on the life and times of Matt Cvetik.

Cvetik tried to join the Army, but he was turned down for being two inches too short. The FBI convinced him to infiltrate the Communist Party of the United States, so he spent nine years reporting what American Communists were up to and how they were influenced by Soviets.

Cvetik wrote a series of stories for the Saturday Evening Post about his experience as a pretend Communist during World War II and the post-war era. Those stories became a book and were fictionalized in the old time radio series at issue and in movies — just in time for McCarthyism and Red Scares.

This episode of I was a Communist for the FBI is from the vault’s of our friends at You’ll find this series — and other detective shows — on sale over there right now, so pay The Cat a visit and order some shows.
