Hey, y’all — Paula Deen was here
Paula Deen is my hero.
I love her show, her magazine and her books. I cook a lot of her recipes. So, you can bet your bottom dollar that when I heard she was coming to Arkansas I was one of the first people in line. When my co-workers and friends told me she was coming to North Little Rock, I told them I had already bought my tickets.
Why was she in Arkansas? The Food Network icon was in town for the Arkansas Women’s Show on Saturday, June 12. You might say she was the star attraction as about 5,000 people — according to event planners — made their way to Verizon Arena to see Deen and the show.
In addition to Deen’s appearance, there were plenty of vendors on hand — food was sampled, appliances were demonstrated and there was more to see than Deen’s appearance, certainly.
My momma, my daughter Brenda and I went to Verizon Arena about 1 p.m. – her show started at 5 p.m. We had a good time looking at all the booths and I bought several things. Bren and I stood in line for two hours for Deen’s book signing and I took a lot of pictures. When we got up there Bren – who was so excited and never met a stranger – froze. Paula kept trying to get her talk and she wouldn’t. Bren just stood there with a grin on her face.
Deen did more than sign books, of course. She put on a cooking show for the crowd that proved popular and lasted over an hour.
Paula Deen is just as inspiring in person as she is in her books and on her shows. I really love her. She is a hoot. I know if she ever comes around here again I will be there with bells on.
